Tot School: P is for Pooh

Luv Bug is 36 months old

Ever since we bought Luv Bug the new Winnie the Pooh movie, I knew I'd have to do a Pooh theme for her. She LOVES Pooh and his friends. We had so much fun this week, I almost wish we could do it another week.

Luv Bug had 5 trays:

 Pattern Blocks

 Pink and Purple playdough.

 I bought these foam unit blocks at the Dollar Tree. Such a simple toy, but one of Luv Bug's favorite tray items.

 When I saw these cute counting fish over at Counting Coconuts, I knew Luv Bug would enjoy a set.

 She lined them up in order. We played this for awhile.

 I first saw the idea for this Mystery Bag over at The Princess and the Tot. There are so many fun things you can do with this. The first day, I put these four new Pooh characters inside as a special surprise.

 Another day, I gave Luv Bug a paper bag with the letter P printed on it. We went around and found things that make the puh sound to add to the bag.

Later, we added the 'P' items to her mystery bag. She had to reach in and guess what she was grabbing. We waited until Daddy was home from work to do this. We had a lot of fun with this game.

 Some other Pooh or bear activities:

 I bought this from Scholastic awhile back. We played once, then Luv Bug just wanted to play with the bears.

 Lots of Pooh puzzles. Most came from the Dollar Tree.

I also bought this Go together game at the Dollar Tree. What I love about this game is that it is self correcting. After you find a match that goes together, you flip the cards over and the two cards will make a picture.

 I was so excited to find this HUGE Pooh Preschool Pack over at Living Life Intentionally. She created several sheets ranging in about ages 2-7. I chose a few to do with Luv Bug this week, then filed the rest for when she is older. All the printables below are part of that pack.

I made Luv Bug some Pooh cutting practice strips. Her cutting is definitely improving.

 Years ago, when I worked in pre-k, we made slime often. Even though it's been several years since then, the recipe is so easy (1 part Elmer's glue to one part liquid starch) , I didn't bother to check. I forgot that you MUST use Elmer's glue for this...whoops. It came out very stringy. Luv Bug didn't know any better and enjoyed it very much, so I just let her play with it.

 It was super sticky, so I set out a bowl of water for Luv Bug's hands. She put the 'slime' in it instead and it totally changed it's consistency.

 I took a piece out. It was very shiny and smooth, but very tough. You could stretch it a bit, but then it would snap in two, almost like a rubber band. Fortunately, my failed attempt at making slime, turned into an awesome sensory and science activity.

A few random pics of the week:

 My mom gave us a bird feeder so Luv Bug could watch the birds out the kitchen window. So far, this squirrel's been the only visitor.

I had dinner on the stove, when Luv Bug said she needed the potty. She wanted to put her tights on herself, so I told her she could while I turned off the stove. This is how I found her when I came back in:)   Luv my Bug!!!!!

Tot School: P is for Princess

Luv Bug is 36 months old

I had a lot of cute things planned for this week, but we ended up having a play date and Luv Bug had immunizations, so we didn't get to everything. We still had a fun week though. We are learning about the letter P.  I saw this adorable Princess preschool pack at 1+1+1=1 and this pack at Confessions of a Homeschooler, and I decided to do a Princess theme for Luv Bug. The only princess story she knows is The Princess and the Pea, so she's not too familiar with the concept, but she still enjoyed our week.

I set out 6 trays this week

 I made Pink and Purple playdough, using this recipe from Teacher Tom. I LOVE this recipe.

 Luv Bug found the new sun hat I bought for the pool this summer and wore it all morning.

 Princess stickers. The small sheet came in a set I bought ahwile back. The big sheet was part of this set by Melissa and Doug.

 I dyed Pink and Purple rice and made Luv Bug an I spy bottle. I've seen them a lot lately on pinterest.

 I didn't have a pink paint cup, so I planned on taping pink foam around the top of the red cup, but before I could, Luv Bug got hold of the tray and completed it. She used the tongs a few times but preferred using her hands.

 I've had these alphabet foam letters sitting around for awhile. I dug out the Pink and Purple ones (except for a few I couldn't find) and gave Luv Bug some glue and a grid with lowercase letters. I told her the letters were fancy like a princess may make. They were a different 'font' than she is used to, but she was able to figure out most on her own.

 I made Pink salt for Luv Bug to draw in. (salt mixed with grated chalk)

 I made a Pink and Purple sensory bin. I set it on the table and went to get my camera. When I walked back in the room, I realized that it looked a little like a crown.

 I used plastic and paper fake grass for the base, then searched around for anything pink or purple she might have fun with.

She did some of the printables from Confessions of a Homeschooler's Princess pack.

 The rest of the printables were from 1+1+1=1's Preschool Princess pack.

I included this picture because Luv Bug chose this activity herself and had SO MUCH fun.

I had a cute crown craft planned but Luv Bug wasn't feeling too well after her shots so we didn't get around to it. Another day, I set out a cute dress up dress, pretty shoes and a little tiara and asked if she's like to dress up. She told me she was already dressed. She has a bin of dress up clothes, but has yet to wear any:(

I thought this was funny, I put everything together on Saturday night. A few days later, one of my favorite blogs, Discovery Days and Montessori Moments, posted about their theme. They were also doing Princesses. I wish it had posted before, because she had several cute ideas. There's always next year:)

It was nice getting back into our routine after being sick. Now that we are all healthy, things can finally get back to normal.
